My journey to becoming a doula began with my roots in Somalia, where I first witnessed the struggles, many women face when accessing quality maternal care. Those early experiences taught me how deeply childbirth impacts not only the mother, but also the child, family, and community.
When I later earned my degree in Public Health, I deepened my understanding of how health goes beyond clinical care—it includes equity, advocacy, and meeting people where they are. That perspective shaped the work I do today as the leader of a nonprofit that serves East African communities facing cultural, language, and systemic barriers to resources.
But my call to become a doula was not limited to my community alone. I became a doula for all women—because every woman deserves dignity, support, and someone to walk alongside her in one of the most vulnerable and powerful moments of her life. My role as a doula is to provide compassionate care that honors each woman’s unique story, culture, and choices, while ensuring she feels empowered throughout her journey.
Being a doula allows me to bring together my lived experience, public health background, and nonprofit leadership to advocate for mothers everywhere. It is my way of ensuring that women—whether East African, American-born, or from any background—are seen, heard, and cared for with respect and compassion.
Specialties/Services Offered:
As a doula, I offer compassionate, culturally responsive support for women and families through every stage of the journey into parenthood. My services include pregnancy and birth support with comfort measures, advocacy, and guidance; postpartum care that helps with healing, newborn care, and emotional adjustment; and lactation support tailored to each family’s needs, whether breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, or pumping. I also provide specialized care for families experiencing pregnancy loss, high-risk pregnancies, or navigating a VBAC, ensuring that no one faces these moments alone. Rooted in a belief that all women deserve access to respectful and barrier-free care, I connect families to resources, offer education, and walk alongside them with empathy and strength during one of the most important transitions in life.
